8th Annual Hawaii Statewide Physical Education Conference
To promote awareness and knowledge of safety and health through the joint efforts of the participants with the primary emphasis in the delivery of safety and health training and education for the benefit of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim Community
Hawaii is on fire with the spirit of revolution and John R Ratey MD as keynote speaker for the 2009 Statewide Physical Education Conference has been called to Spark the Revolution.  Dr Ratey will address the critical role of physical activity for mental and physical health and as such physical educators are being called to new heights.  Physical exercise prepares the way for optimal learning, and improved academic outcomes.  Dr. Ratey will lay the ground work for the new physical education model and impart a new identity to PE teachers.

The Miracle of Exercise
            Dr. Ratey’s course first describes how important exercise is to us from an evolutionary perspective. It will show how exercise works by affecting the neurotransmitters and how this plays a huge role in moderating our moods and anxiety. The seminar will describe the role of exercise in making us more resilient and for stalling the aging process. It will elaborate on how exercise optimizes the person to be a better learner and help with ADHD the addictions and even bipolar and schizophrenia. This course is designed so that participants will be able to instruct their patients on the brain changes resulting from routines of physical aerobic exercise that will help manage mood; instruct parents and children as to the many ways aerobic exercise makes the learner better prepared to learn by changing the attention, motivational, and impulsive control level as well as at the many alterations that make the neurons ready to learn at the cellular level.
